The singuhr is the main venue for sound art in Berlin. singuhr has realized over 80 solo exhibitions since its foundation in 1996, not only presenting young and renowned national and international sound artists, but also consistently focusing on the artistic transitional fields within audiovisual art and media productions by organizing performative projects as well as its own discourse and facilitation events. The conceptual strategy is based on the idea of exclusively presenting and managing place-specific art – a concept whose consistent realization has, in the meantime, made the singuhr – sound gallery an internationally known institution for installative audiovisual art both among artists and facilitators.

While the work was concentrated in the rooms of the baroque Parochialkirche in Berlin’s Mitte district from 1996 to 2006, the two historic water reservoirs in the Prenzlauer Berg district became the project’s central venue from 2007 onwards. The unique architecture, the singular acoustics and the location at the heart of the lively Kollwitz neighbourhood predestined the two reservoirs to become places for innovative artistic projects. Since 2007, more than 30,000 people have attended the singuhr’s exhibition and cooperative concert projects, its discussion events and tours. Productions developed in Berlin have been presented in project spaces throughout Europe under the auspices of the Europe-wide Resonance-Network (www.resonancenetwork.eu), of which the singuhr has been a member since 2010.

The singuhr sound gallery's integrative concept forges links between renowned sound artists and the next artistic generation, between the urban arena and artistic events, between installative and performative forms. For the first time, multiple artists will show their installations simultaneously in different spaces. Works by different generations, groups and individual projects will encounter one another - a selected mix that delivers an overview of the current position of artistic productions within the heterogeneous field of sound art.

Since 2010 singuhr - hoergalerie is a partner of the RESONANCE network, a European collaboration that focuses on the production, the presentation, the documentation and exchange of experience in the field of contemporary sound art. www.resonancenetwork.eu
