„Ewige Dunkelheit“

back to the
season
"Eternal Darkness" is a site specific sound installation for a large water reservoir, turned into a huge pipe instrument, where visitors can sonically and physically experience massive low frequency excitations of the room. It is based on a composition that changes over time, in which polymorphic sound structures move through the imposing vaults of the space in ever new acoustic fractures and twists. The low drones are contrasted with occasional higher pipe organ-like pitches that seem to have no physical origin, bouncing off the walls in endless echos. The pitches at times might form almost familiar musical harmonies, distant collective memories of themes just to fall apart again and disappear. The sonic experience of the installation is strongly dependent from the listening position, visitor are encouraged to walk around and explore the spacial distribution of resonances in the almost complete dark cistern as part of the composition.
