The architecture of the Large Water Reservoir and the special acoustics of its five concentric rings are the starting points for a sound installation by computer music students at the University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The title says it all: “inferno ma non troppo - sound installation in 5 circles” is a piece that turns the water reservoir into a showplace for spectacular spatio-musical experiments - a “descent into hell” into the belly of a room whose reverberation times can last up to 20 seconds. With the electro-acoustic spatial sound, sound movements and fine tonal layers as well as sounding organ pipes in the centre, the labyrinthine water reservoir turns into a sounding instrument.
