Robert Jacobsen belongs to a new generation of sound artists who enrich the field of sound art from different starting points. Trained as a goldsmith, he also studied music, design and scultpure, and did psychoacoustic research. Since 1987 he has been developing kinetic sound sculptures and objects as well as sound installations, and has worked in the concert, theatre and performance areas. His pieces are productions of precise craftsmanship, often accompanied by a playful lightness which - bright and contemplative - at the same time place the recipient in the centre.
"Mobilé Sonoro", "Waterplay" and the "Woodpickers" create a choreopgraphic space in the tower room of the Parochial Church: in the centre a sounding mobile - a hommage to Alexan-der Calder, whose conceptions Jacobsen has modified by expanding the dimension of the sound, and in doing so has created a sculpture that can be experienced visually and acoustically. Two "Woodpickers" and a waterplay consort to this by knocking rhythmically on the wooden floor.
Sounding kinetic objects await the visitor in the stairwell and the belfry - combinations made of objet trouvé, their functionality found in stolen everyday items and adventuresome mechanics. Like miniature objects they appear to hide a story which is left to the imagination of the recipient to piece together.
