In Mitte (der Welt)
„In Mitte (der Welt)“ of Jens Brand is an ironic but sensual navel-gazing with Parochial Church as „center of the world“. From the bell tower every visitor can send a message into the world, thereby touching a somewhat lost dimension of telecommunication – the real geographic distance between sender and receiver and there positions on planet earth. A prepared telephone – the ParochialAudioMessenger (programming: Sukandar Kartadinata) - transmits compositions to selectable telephone numbers.
Their acoustic shapes base on topographic data belonging to the route from Parochial Church to the respective counterpart. The telephone works like an interface, giving the dialed number to the computer. Via the receivers area code the computer calculates a 30 second piece of music using a threedimensional model of the route. The participants will experience an acoustic journey over mountains, valleys, rivers and oceans from Parochial church in Berlin Mitte to the place which was selected.
