installations at the - singuhr -hoergalerie in parochial in 2005

„Spatium campanarum“ places an acoustic field of three subfrequent sinus waves into the bell tower. Their interferences create an amorphous architecture of crests and throughs, illuminated by the blue light of argon lamps. „Gesuego“ (winter church) is a room composition for five tunes, beaming and light, basing on Gesualdo’s motet „moro lasso“. „sub sonus“ presents works of different periods of Jan-Peter E. R. Sonntag, reflecting his activities on perception and neural networks.

29th September - 6th October 2005
Thursday - Sunday, 2pm - 8pm

opening: at 6 p.m.
long night: 6th October 2005 until 12 p.m.

A prepared telephone – the ParochialAudioMessenger – transmits compositions to selectable telephone numbers. Their acoustic shapes base on topographic data belonging to the distance lying between Parochial Church and the respective counterpart. „In Mitte (der Welt)“ of Jens Brand is an ironic but sensual navel-gazing with Parochial Church as „center of the world“.

The installation „Pea Soup“ of the american sound artist Nicolas Collins generates architectural „melodies“. A dynamic system transforms familiar feedback noises into fluctuating patterns of tones – a location specific raga. It is affected by resonances and reverberations though it is not purely reflecting the acoustic properties of the room but is reacting to presence and motion of the visitors.

The second exhibition of the season will be opened at singuhr - hoergalerie in parochial with the two sound installations Tonkuppel (nave) and Tonstrahlen (porch) of Bernhard Leitner. Tonstrahlen will cross the church's porch like rays. Parabolic bowls will focus the sounds, beam them against the walls and up to the ceiling, and generate acoustic "pictures" beyond the sonic sources. The composition links them together to moving figures and gestures overlaying the architecture. Tonkuppel will articulate the central nave's vertical dimension in a new way and make it a sculptural experience. Trombone sounds ascend from a resonance cylinder and unfold in a virtual dome created by acoustic means.

Spatial Sounds (100dB at 100km/h) is an interactive audio installation by Marnix de Nijs and Edwin van der Heide. In this engine-powered installation, a speaker is mounted onto a rotating arm that is several meters long. Like a watchdog, the machine scans the surrounding space for visitors.
