singuhr on paper
9th May 2014 - 1st June 2014

The 2013 season saw the end of the singuhr – sound gallery’s continuous exhibitions in the two historic water reservoirs in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district. The "singuhr on paper" exhibition reviews the gallery’s projects once again at Kunsthaus Meinblau, one of the singuhr – sound gallery’s most important cooperation partners in recent years, at the same time focusing on the possibilities of documenting ephemeral art.

As a visual anchor, all of the singuhr – sound gallery posters since 1996 will be presented in a collective exhibition for the first time. At the centre is the unique way of presenting sound art projects using visual design. Posters and printed materials for the singuhr were developed by graphic design studio “cyan” in close collaboration with the curatorial concepts. The studio won several prizes at national and international poster competitions. All posters have made it to the “100 best posters of the year” list for the German speaking region. They have been presented in exhibitions in Japan and France, but never collectively in Berlin.

In addition to the printed materials, media points with prepared sound and image materials offer a glimpse of the individual exhibition projects. Sound art is considered to be ephemeral art, its works are not reproducible. This is why all of the gallery’s projects in and around the water reservoirs have been extensively documented in both picture and sound. This resulted in a comprehensive project archive that will now be showcased in "singuhr on paper". The exhibition presents audio documentation of each exhibition of the last seven years in the two water reservoirs and other locations (Mastering: Nepenthes Music). A real time 3D-documentation (realization: Guillermo Lares) allows to virtually visit Max Eastley's 2013 exhibition "Aeolian Circles" in the Large Water reservoir.
