Evelina Deicmane
A Long Day

Evelina Deicmane  born in Valmiera, Latvia, in 1978. Lives and works in Riga, Latvia. 
Evelina has participated in exhibitions since 1999. Her first solo show – “Breathing Prohibited” – took place at the Noass Gallery in 2005. Since then she has participated in a number of international exhibitions such as the 15th Sydney Biennale in Australia (2006), the 2nd Moscow Biennale in Russia (2007) and Manifesta 7 in Italy (2008). In 2009 she represented Latvia at the Venice Biennale. Evelina Deicmane has also exhibited in France, Germany, Sweden and other countries.
In her work she uses mixed techniques, experimenting with sound and with visual elements. Her conceptual approach is tempered by existential moods and human experiences, creating a space where sorrow collides with happiness and drama is diffused with humour. Her work often reflects her nationality.
