dolmen — sound installation
9 December — 20 December 2015
Opening: 8 December 2015, 7 - 9 p.m.
Artist talk: 20 December 2015, 8 p.m.
Time and again Mario de Vega’s works venture to the boundaries of human perception. Psychoacoustic phenomena, infrasound, high-voltage systems and electromagnetic oscillation fields are components of his art, questions of individual perception mechanisms dealt with just as much as global political and social developments. His »Dolmen« installation addresses the social effects of modern telecommunications technologies. Mario de Vega visually confronts the observer with a sculpture that simulates a modern radio mast. An integrated sensor system records digital communications radio waves that are not normally audible and modulates them in real time to within the audible range. The acoustic activity of the sculpture is directly dependent on the activity of the local mobile phone network and the visitor. The exhibition space becomes the resonant space of an omnipresent yet invisible technology whose social, political and health effects are as yet unclear. The »Usuarios (Users)« photo series is presented along with »Dolmen«, which de Vega has been developing together with Víctor Mazón Gardoqui since 2003.
